Pulmonary tumor embolism as an initial manifestation of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

چکیده
Pulmonary tumor embolism is a rare syndrome caused by migration of tumoral emboli into the pulmonary arteries. These tumor emboli may form a fibrin-platelet thrombi, resulting in pulmonary-artery hypertension and subsequent right-heart failure. Establishing this diagnosis can be very difficult, and most cases are diagnosed during autopsy,1 although a history of cancer may be a predictor. We report a case of pulmonary tumor embolism as the initial presentation of pancreatic adenocarcinoma, which developed into pulmonary-artery hypertension and fatal right-heart failure.

متن کاملPericardial tamponade and coexisting pulmonary embolism as first manifestation of non-advanced lung adenocarcinoma
Pericardial effusion and pulmonary embolism are relatively common complications of malignancy and are uncommon as its initial manifestation. This report describes a case of a patient, who presented with this association, due to an underlying pulmonary adenocarcinoma. When a major pericardial effusion is associated with pulmonary hypertension, some echocardiographic signs may redress the diagnos...
متن کاملCatastrophic arteriovenous thromboembolism as initial manifestation of pancreatic cancer.
CONTEXT The association between cancer and thrombosis is well-known. Among gastrointestinal malignancies, pancreatic cancer has perhaps the strongest association with thromboembolic events. However, simultaneous arterial and venous thromboses affecting multiple organs at the time of initial diagnosis is rare, with an incidence of less than 1%. CASE REPORT We report herein a case of a 61-year-...
متن کاملDiarrhea as initial manifestation of pulmonary artery intimal sarcoma: a case report and literature review
Pulmonary artery intimal sarcoma (PAIS) is a rare malignant tumor that presents with nonspecific symptoms and may be misdiagnosed as thromboembolic disease. We report a case of a 40-year-old female who presented with diarrhea as the initial symptom, was misdiagnosed and received thrombolytic therapy for presumed pulmonary embolism. Progressive symptoms and subsequent surgery led to the diagnosi...
متن کاملCardiac metastasis and tumor embolism in a patient with adenocarcinoma of the colon presenting with paraneoplastic polymyositis.
Colorectal cancer usually presents with alterations in the bowel habit. Less commonly, the presenting symptoms may be part of a paraneoplastic syndrome. Metastasis can occur by lymphatic or hematogenous spread, most frequently to the lungs and liver. We present the case of a 56-year-old man admitted with paraneoplastic polymyositis due to a poorly differentiated colon adenocarcinoma. The evolut...
